A/N: This is set within the year after which these two must have first met, but before Klavier’s first case as a prosecutor, making them both 17-ish (and, er, therefore perfectly legal to be doing what they’re doing in this fic. Or at least in the country I’m writing in, anyway). Bit of timeline dilation in there, probably, but trying to fit how these two became friends/formed the Gavinners/started their careers/became internationally famous in with canon is a hopeless endeavour. Title is taken from the Suede song of the same name. This fic also has a very much optional commentary, hosted here on Dreamwidth (if anyone actually does want to comment on it, anonymous, OpenID and DW account comments are all enabled there, or you can just talk to me about it here). Commentary is rambling and intrusive, so probably not a good version to use for a first read.

Notes: Ahahaha. This was a kink meme request for a fantasy AU which proceeded to spin out of control. I watched on with a mix of horror and amusement and it became a lot longer than I’d ever intended for it to be.
I found it a little difficult to keep Klavier and Daryan in character when I couldn’t use their typical speech patterns (like ja, ain’t etc.) but hopefully I’ve still managed to keep them in character.
A while back, I picked up a kinkmeme prompt - Daryan/Klavier, life on the road - with the intention of writing a series of vignettes for it. I wrote a couple, but took an awfully long time over it, and either the OP lost interest or the fill just got lost somewhere in the midst of Part 7. Anyway, I kept coming back regardless to the plan I had in between writing other things, playing with it, adding to it, and realised that there were just SO MANY scenes from their almost-but-not-quite relationship I wanted to write, so many aspects of it that I wanted to play with. So I’ve decided to turn this into a more general arc of short fics about how I see this pairing - trying to fill in some of the gaps between T&T and AJ, trying to figure out what I think about the two characters and what they mean or have meant to each other, trying to work out my own version of the backstory to 4-3, etc. etc. Interspersed with gratuitous rockstar smut :D Anyway, seeing as I’ll probably end up writing bits for this sporadically and wildly out of chronological order, I’m going to use this post as a sort of hub/timeline for the arc, which I’ll add to as and when.
